The Silver Hedgehog Review of Amazon Queen (excerpt)
Carson Grant as Francisco SantosAmazon Queen is one of those unique independent movies that gets support from not just new talent, but from seasoned professionals as well. Joining the cast is Carson Grant. With close to 400 acting credits, including a distinguished and varied stage career, Grant brings a level of experience much needed to this film. We first meet Grant making a surprise attempt at reconnecting with his on-screen Daughter Jackie. What’s surprising is the connection the two actors have. You can really sense the regret that Santos displays in reaction to his daughter’s apparent disdain. Grants facial expressions and body language give away his feelings of remorse without the need for many words. As it happens though, Grants dialogue delivery is lively and clear, his experience shining through. Grants interactions with the rest of the cast also stand out, going toe to toe with some of the younger cast members and showing his softer side to support his daughter when it was called for. There is a reason for Santo’s reappearance in his daughter’s life and without giving any spoilers away I can say that it is evident that Grant is able to delve deep into his kit bag to bring out a convincing performance. Grant’s involvement in the film doesn’t end with acting either, I noticed an executive producer credit. Sometimes in a film you can sense when the cast get on well. Watching Amazon Queen, I get the sense that not only did the cast bond, but that Grant supported the more inexperienced actors off screen, I would go as far as to say the film lifts a little once Grant makes his entrance. So not only a father figure on screen but maybe in real life too, casting Grant for this role was perfect.
